In recognition of her long time role as a leader in the soap and detergent industry, the International Soap and Detergent Association (SDA) established the Elva Walker Spillane Distinguished Service Award. Elva Walker Spillane, an owner of National Purity, received the award post-humously. She was the first ever to receive such an award from the SDA. The SDA continues to give the award annually.
The Elva Walker Spillane Award recognizes:

- The exercise of outstanding leadership within the Association, or its member companies; or
- Exceptional contributions to the Association or the Industry, including, but not limited to the area of governmental policy, international alliances and education; or
- Noteworthy public service activities on the local, regional, state, national, or international level which bring honor to the Industry or the Association.
